Designing a passionate life includes eliminating negative head-talk. I've also heard it referred to as negative self-talk, negative chatter, or what ever name you give it. The end result is the same, self-sabotage. You may not only experience negative head-talk but also depression, lack of energy, and other behaviors that keep you from moving forward, taking action, and enjoying life. So what can you do about it?
The first thing you need to do is to recognize when it's occurring. When does your negative head-talk kick-in? What triggers it? What are you saying to yourself? What is the theme? Become the watcher of your thoughts and what you say to yourself. This gives you ideas as to what is going on in your unconscious mind. Your negative head-talk comes from your unconscious mind and gives you clues about your unconscious thoughts.
Negative head-talk is expressing what you really want. For example, you're asked to take a new position in your company but you decline the offer. You very logically identify the reasons why it doesn't work for you and the reasons are valid at the time. However, what lies beneath the reasons is what you really want. It could be because you don't want to step outside your comfort zone, or because you would be disloyal to some idea or concept of who you are in the world.
Your unconscious perceptions of your place in the world or your loyalties to how you see yourself are extremely powerful and are the driving forces behind your negative head-talk.
